    This WSET Level 3 Award in Wines course is an advanced level qualification for wine industry professionals and serious wine consumers.

    This online course is designed to give a thorough understanding of the factors that account for the style, quality and price of the principal still, sparkling and fortified wines of the world. The qualification will assist those who are required to make professional evaluations of wines with regards to their style, quality and price. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.

    This course is offered through the Canvas online learning platform and is based around a 9-week structured online program with a recommendation of 10 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook. After registration, the Level 3 study pack will be mailed from Linfield University APP.

    Note: A revision of Level 2 materials is recommended, and students should hold the Level 2 Award in Wines, or be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge.

    The course is based around a 9-week structured online program with a recommendation of 10 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook. There is also a 1-day tasting review prior to the exam provided by Linfield University APP and 4 virtual tasting sessions over the duration of the course.
    This online course prepares the student for the Level 3 qualification and they are guided by a London-based WSET educator. The course delivery follows a weekly structure, but allows the student to work ahead or catch up on the activities and forums. There are no set times to log into the course as there are no live chats or webinars, aside from the virtual tasting sessions. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study. Each week includes a series of independent activities that guide the student through the key wine regions of the world looking at the factors in the vineyard and winery that influence wine styles.

    The student can contact the educator any time for the duration of the scheduled course in addition to Linfield APP staff should they have any questions.

    The following modules include:

    Week 1: Factors Affecting Style, Quality and Price of Wine
    Week 2: Tasting technique, Wine Laws and Service
    Weeks 3-5: Factors Affecting the Wine, Style and Quality of Wines from Europe
    Weeks 6-7: Factors Affecting the Wine, Style and Quality of Wines from the Rest of the World
    Week 8: Sparkling and Fortified Wines
    Week 9: Revision & Resources

    Students should be advised to taste a range of wines during their studies.     Any additional wines can be found in the WSET course specification – please consult your local bottle shop or preferred distributor for availability. Students can post their tasting notes in the Online Classroom for review by the educator.

    The WSET Educator is offering four required virtual tasting sessions for tasting review and SAT demonstration over the duration of the online course on June 24, July 8, July 22 and August 5. Times will be given after registration.

    Please be prepared to present a government-issued ID on the day of the exam. Note that an exam date is contingent on COVID-19 restrictions and Linfield University APP reserves the right to reschedule the Level 2 exam if needed.

    Cancellations and Refunds Policy

    Refund Policy
    Students will receive a full refund when a WSET course is cancelled by the Linfield University Center for Wine Education due to insufficient enrollment. No refunds will be given after the class date has commenced. No refunds will be given after the specification examination is ordered. Note: If a WSET candidate is absent from an examination, all applicable fees encompassing an examination re-sit including (but not limited to) exam re-ordering, shipping costs, and other penalty fees will be charged to the student.

    Cancellation Policy
    In the case of an extreme emergency, a student may appeal to the Center for Wine Education Main Contact via email ( if they must cancel their registration and postpone the course and examination to a later date. Cancellation appeals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
